Saturday I had the pleasure of spending the day with Jodi. Any time spent with Jodi is a breath of fresh air and we had a wonderful time together. As we walked around a little town by her house, we went into a store that you could walk all the way through to an alley. When we came out the back of the store, I looked up and snapped this picture:
Something you can't tell from the picture is that the clouds were moving so quickly, I could barely get my camera to focus.
For some reason, I kept thinking about those clouds. The picture looks like a beautifully sunny day and it was, but I kept thinking about these lyrics:
When the storm is raging all around me
You are the peace that calms my troubled sea
And when the cares of this world darken my day
You are the light that shines and shows me the way
Oh, the beauty of Your majesty
On the cross You showed Your love for me! (-Leeland, Beautiful Lord)
I remembered the story in the Bible of Jesus sleeping on a boat when a storm was raging above deck.
One day he and his disciples got in a boat. "Let's cross the lake," he said. And off they went. It was smooth sailing, and he fell asleep. A terrific storm came up suddenly on the lake. Water poured in, and they were about to capsize. They woke Jesus: "Master, Master, we're going to drown!"
Getting to his feet, he told the wind, "Silence!" and the waves, "Quiet down!" They did it. The lake became smooth as glass.
Then he said to his disciples, "Why can't you trust me?"
They were in absolute awe, staggered and stammering, "Who is this, anyway? He calls out to the winds and sea, and they do what he tells them!" (Luke 8:22-25, Message Version)
I'm learning each day to trust Jesus more. I'm so grateful for taking a picture and thinking about it all weekend long. When I get down or upset that life isn't going the way I thought or things don't happen in the timeframe I think they should, I know that Jesus is there to calm the storm. And I want him to say, "You did a great job trusting me through that time Malisa!"
