Homemade Slow Cooker Applesauce

We celebrate Christmas with my parents and siblings a couple days before or after Christmas. This was my Dad's brilliant idea that allows us to spend more time together and not feel rushed! When we celebrate the Roome Family Christmas, we eat dinner, remember Jesus's birth, share what's been going on, and of course, exchange gifts. I mentioned that we had drawn names and I personally loved this idea even more when the gift exchange occurred. I was excited to see what my siblings and I had picked out for each other. 

My mom asked me to make something healthy so I made fried rice (I'll share that recipe soon) and applesauce. I had just finished my 3 month long batch of vanilla extract (posting it soon too) and was happy to make applesauce with it!

I used this recipe from Michelle's blog, however I made a few tweaks to it. The best part about this recipe is you don't have to peel the apples! So here's my adapted version:

Ingredients 

  • 8-10 large apples, washed and cubed
  • 1-2 teaspoons Nutmeg (freshly grated if you have it)
  • 4 tbsp Vanilla
  • 3 tbsp Cinnamon
  • Lemon juice (1/2 of a whole lemon)
  • 2-4 tbsp Brown Sugar (if you desire)
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • Pinch of Salt

Directions

Spray your slow cooker with cooking spray. Add apples and add all other ingredients to the top of the apples. Cook for 8 hours on low or 3 hours on high. Serve warm or refrigerate for later use.

*Note I made this at nighttime and it smelled amazing all night as it cooked!
